Face It Introduction

Dear reader,

We at Face it believe that the deliberate practice of conflict management and communication skills are a key practice that can improve all areas of life. Organizations lose billions each year in workplace conflict. 40% of first marriages end in divorce. Our ability to effectively communicate and manage conflict will impact all of our relationships, whether we like it or not.

Most people are conflict averse. Dealing with the unpleasantness of divisive situations causes short-term pain and discomfort along with longer term fear of damaged relationships. Many people prefer to defer these interactions, hoping to avoid this pain and fear. This often leads to unexpressed emotions and pent up dissatisfaction which can exacerbate the conflict when it eventually bubbles to the surface. How can we avoid this bad outcome?

Communication and conflict management are skills. All complex skills require deliberate practice in order to improve. Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell, indicates that it requires 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to attain mastery in any skill. How much practice managing conflict do we engage in?

Many solutions to conflict management are reactive, short duration, and passive. They rely on imparting knowledge through reading or seminars exclusively. These types of learning are valuable for developing intuition and frameworks, but are not sufficient to qualify as consistent, deliberate practice.

Only Face It’s group practice sessions along with our industry leading learning content are designed to foster both independent discovery and group deliberate practice.

Together, we can build a better, more compassionate world. Everyone has the capacity to face challenging situations effectively and build stronger relationships as a result. Join us in this journey as we improve the world together, one interaction at a time.

To Our Strength,

Josh Collins, Co-Founder Face It
